Top 100 Prospects

This year’s game will feature six of Baseball America’s Top 100 players:

Top Pitchers To Watch

Once Dodgers prospect Eriq Swan gets in the game, pay attention. The tall righthander has used his Fall League time to show off a devastating pitch mix headed by an upper-90s fastball and backed by a slider, sweeper and changeup. So far, he’s struck out 14 hitters in 8.2 innings with Glendale.

The hardest-throwing pitcher in the game will undoubtedly be Reds righthander Luis Mey, who touches triple-digits as easily as he breathes. He’s been up to 102 mph this season and has struck out eight hitters across 7.2 hitless AFL frames.

Angels lefty Samy Natera Jr. has been one of the surprises of the fall. The 25-year-old New Mexico State alum has used a mix of four- and two-seam fastballs, along with a slider and changeup, to stymie the opposition. He’s punched out 13 hitters and allowed just five hits across 10 innings.

Blue Jays righthander T.J. Brock has one of the most wicked sliders in the AFL, and he’s used it to fan 10 hitters in six scoreless innings.

Top Hitters To Watch

Tigers prospect Josue Briceño has been a wrecking ball since Opening Day. The 20-year-old has molly whopped the competition with contact and impact, producing a .392/.465/.797 slash line with a league-best eight home runs. Twice our AFL Hot Sheet headliner, Briceño leads the league in a cornucopia of other categories, including slugging percentage, hits, extra-base hits and total bases.

Rays prospect Tre’ Morgan has seen time at both first base and in the outfield during the AFL, but he’s made the most noise in the batter’s box. Morgan has done an excellent job making contact—his strikeout rate in the AFL is just 9.5%—and has racked up 10 extra-base hits, including eight doubles. Morgan’s overall slash line with Mesa is .347/.405/.528.

Dodgers outfielder Zyhir Hope had a high amount of helium entering the Fall League, and he’s shown flashes of his potential throughout his time with Glendale. The lefty swinger has three doubles and three home runs in 84 plate appearances.

Rangers infielder Max Acosta entered the AFL with eyes on a spot on the 40-man roster. So far, he’s made a resounding case to be protected ahead of the winter’s Rule 5 Draft. The 22-year-old Acosta has hit .305/.388/.492 with six doubles, a triple, a home run and seven stolen bases.
