It’s going to be hard to match the depth of the Dominican Republic, which will face i in Pool D, but Venezuela fields a lineup and a rotation full of talented major leaguers.
With Ranger Suarez (Phillies), Jesus Luzardo (Marlins), Martin Perez (Rangers), Pablo Lopez (Twins) and German Marquez (Rockies), Team Venezuela’s manager Omar Lopez will have a wide array of options to chose from for his starting rotation.
Picking his lineup will present some interesting questions for Lopez. Center fielder Ronald Acuna (Braves), second baseman Jose Altuve (Astros), first baseman/second baseman Luis Arraez (Marlins) and catcher Salvador Perez (Royals) are the stars to build around.
Third baseman Eugenio Suarez (Mariners), second baseman Gleyber Torres (Yankees) and second baseman/shortstop Andres Gimenez give the team plenty of additional infield depth.
Update: Shortstop Miguel Rojas has withdrawn from playing in the WBC. Infielder Hernan Perez has been added as an injury replacement.
