Baseball America has confirmed the 2022 draft will again take place during all-star weekend, from July 17-19 in Los Angeles.
The draft will be 20 rounds, with the first two rounds and supplemental rounds taking place on July 17, rounds 3-10 taking place on July 18 and rounds 11-20 taking place on July 19.
The Orioles have the No. 1 pick for the third time in the club’s history. In 2019 the Orioles selected Oregon State catcher Adley Rutschman—the No. 1 prospect in baseball—with the first overall pick.
In addition, the draft combine is back and is moving across the country. This year’s combine will take place in San Diego at Petco Park from June 14-20. The inaugural draft combine in 2021 took place at USA Baseball’s National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.
USA Baseball and MLB clubs will invite 300 draft-eligible players to the combine, where players will have a chance to participate in medical and performance assessments, on-field workouts and strength and performance testing. There will also be an opportunity for high school invitees to play in games against other high school players.
