2021 Texas Rangers Instructional League Roster
The Rangers’ massive instructional league is, unsurprisingly, stocked with a host of talented prospects.
Righthander Owen White missed time with a broken hand this year, but was dazzling when he got back on the mound later in the season. He used an electric fastball and filthy breaking ball to whiff 54 hitters in 33.1 innings down the stretch with Low-A Down East. Lefthander Mitchell Bratt should also be at the top of any Rangers prospect-watcher’s to-see list. Drafted this past June, the Canadian had one of the most impressive professional debuts.
If you stay toward the later innings, look out for righthander Emiliano Teodo, who can blow hitters away with a fastball that gets into the triple-digits. The wild card on the pitching side might be righthander Ricky Vanasco, who is on the way back from Tommy John surgery and has run his fastball up to 99 mph.
First-rounder Jack Leiter is not among the pitchers in camp, so the highest pick from the 2021 draft class will be Oregon outfielder Aaron Zavala. The lefty hitter gained serious helium during the course of the college season, prompting Texas to select him in the second round. Other hitters to watch include powerful outfielder Yosy Galan, whose 10 home runs were second in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League.
