2021 Houston Astros Instructional League Roster
The fallout from the sign-stealing scandal has obviously cost the Astros a chance to infuse their system with high-end talent, but there are bright spots on the group’s instructional league roster.
Righthander Tyler Brown has some of the best stuff in the organization, but now he needs to refine his command and control to get the most out of his arsenal. Righthander Chayce McDermott impressed in his pro debut, ringing up 33 hitters in 18.1 innings at Low-A Fayetteville.
The position-player side features trade acquisition catcher Yainer Diaz (Cleveland), who had a strong turn (admittedly at hitter’s paradise Asheville) after coming over at the deadline. Infielder Shay Whitcomb also had a loud season in his pro debut, finishing with 23 homers, which ranked third in the organization.
