2019 Oakland Athletics Instructional League Roster
Every year, Baseball America makes an effort to post Instructional League rosters for every organization. We will continue our effort to post as many rosters as possible, but please note not all teams participate in the Instructional League anymore.
The A’s are sending eight of their 30 best prospects to instructs this fall, headlined by outfield prospects Austin Beck and Lazaro Armenteros.
The group also includes 2019 first round pick Logan Davidson, who joins Beck and Armenteros among prospects ranked within Oakland’s top 10 to make the trip.
Others listed: SS Jeremy Eierman, 3B Jordan Diaz, LHP Hogan Harris and catchers Kyle McCann and Drew Millas.
You can see Oakland’s Top 30 list here.
Oakland is also sending 16-year-old shortstop prospect Robert Puason, one of the top prospects in the 2019 international class, who signed for a bonus north of $5 million.
Two under-the-radar arms making the trip? RHP Nick Highberger, a 25-year-old reliever. While his 2019 results were unassuming — he posted a 4.38 ERA in 63.2 innings at high A Stockton, walking 36 batters while striking out 46 — he did catch the eye of scouts back in spring training.
Oakland is also sending 23-year-old righty Nathan Patterson, who became a viral sensation earlier this summer after video of him throwing 96 mph on an in-stadium pitching game for fans at Coors Field circulated. The A’s signed Patterson, who never even played varsity baseball in high school, to a contract days later and sent him to the Arizona League, where he struck out eight batters in his first 5.2 professional innings.
Of note: The A’s are also sending several pitchers to a designated “velocity camp.”
