2016 State Draft Report: Puerto Rico
CROP RATING | |
Solid, not spectacular | |
Rating compares this year’s group to what a state typically produces, not to other states |
Headlined by toolsy position players Delvin Perez and Mario Feliciano, the 2016 draft is shaping up to be Puerto Rico’s best since the historic 2012 class led by first-overall pick Carlos Correa. While a positive test for performance enhancing drugs threw Perez’s status into doubt just a few days before the draft, he still could be the highest drafted Puerto Rican since Correa.
As good as this year’s class is, it could be even better with players such as Luis Curbello and Francisco Thomas, two Puerto Rican shortstops who moved to Florida. But this year still looks to be a solid year for the island.
