10 Arizona Diamondbacks Prospects To Know Beyond The Top 30 in 2024
Baseball America’s Top 30 Arizona Diamondbacks Prospects entering 2024 are here exclusively for subscribers. The list includes updated scouting reports, BA grades and tool grade projections every player.
Inevitably, there are players every year who barely miss the cut when we narrow down the list. These players are all worth monitoring for various reasons and it’s likely some will either reach the big leagues in 2024 or enjoy breakout seasons lower in the minors.
Here are next 10 players to know in the D-backs system beyond their Top 30.
31. Andrew Saalfrank, LHP
A reliever turned starter at Indiana, Saalfrank bounced back from Tommy John surgery and earned a vital role in the D-backs bullpen in September and the postseason. His average sinker sets up his plus curveball which makes him an effective reliever.
32. J.J. D’Orazio, C
D’Orazio showed aptitude in terms of making adjustments and enjoyed his best season at the plate. He still has work to do defensively and needs to add strength but is trending in the right direction.
33. Ricardo Yan, RHP
Tall and lanky with a low release point, Yan’s sinker and sweeper combination play off each other well and lead to uncomfortable at-bats. He could have a future as a funky middle reliever.
34. Carlos Virahonda, C
Short and stocky with a compact swing and a plus arm, Virahonda looks the part of an everyday catcher who can impact the game on both sides of the ball. He’ll play all of 2024 at age 18.
35. Justin Martinez, RHP
Martinez has electric stuff, but he needs to throw it over the plate far more often. If he can, he could quickly emerge as a late-inning relief weapon.
36. Spencer Giesting, LHP
Giesting has a starter’s frame and a dominant changeup, but he needs to add a couple of ticks to his fastball while continuing to throw more strikes. He could be a future starter waiting to emerge.
37. Jose Alpuria, CF
Alpuria is toolsy and unrefined but is starting to learn the finer points of the game. Still only 19, he has the potential to be a multi-dimensional, everyday player.
38. Manuel Pena, 2B
Pena’s numbers from last season don’t reflect it, but he made strides offensively despite being pushed aggressively to High-A. His bat will have to arrive because there are already questions about his future position.
39. Andrew Pintar, 2B/CF
Pintar’s development has been slowed significantly by injuries, but he impressed after shifting to center field late in 2023. He needs to stay healthy to get the most from his intriguing tools.
40. Nate Savino, LHP
Savino did not develop at Virginia the way many thought he would and then missed all of the 2023 season after having shoulder surgery. His mid-90s fastball from the left side makes him a wild card if he returns healthy.
