A 15th-round pick in 2011, Houchins didn't sign with the Nationals after a controversy involving insensitive remarks on his Twitter account, and he returned to Louisburg for a second season. He was leading the team in hitting through 54 games with a .400/.476/.726 line and 14 home runs in 190 at-bats. He hits the ball hard and has a good swing, though his power grades out as average. His defense has improved at the hot corner and he has a strong arm, but he may be better suited for second base. He's listed at 6-foot-3, 195 pounds but isn't overly physical. Giving catching a try might be an option for Houchins, though scouts aren't sure he wants to go behind the plate. On talent, he could go between the 10th and 15th rounds, but scouts may want him to spend a year at East Carolina before signing him.
