Drafted in the 8th round (246th overall) by the San Francisco Giants in 2017 (signed for $125,000).
View Draft Report
The Brewers drafted Gavin in the 39th round out of high school, but he instead made his way to Cal State Fullerton and was a three-year member of the Titans rotation. Gavin put together an incredibly accomplished resume. Gavin led Fullerton in ERA as a sophomore, and was 6-2, 3.07 in the regular season as a junior. Gavin is a big lefthander at 6-foot-6, 250 pounds but doesn't have big stuff. His fastball sits 88-92 mph and he complements it with an average changeup and below-average curveball. Where Gavin succeeds is with solid control, keeping his walks reasonable and avoiding barrels to limit hard contact. He can throw all of his pitches for strikes and lasts deep into games. Gavin's track record and strike-throwing make him an interesting starter candidate and give him a chance to be drafted in the top 10 rounds.
