Drafted in the 7th round (215th overall) by the Detroit Tigers in 2017 (signed for $189,100).
View Draft Report
A 33rd-round pick of the Cubs out of high school, Bass was a dominant reliever for Notre Dame as a freshman. After an injury-plagued sophomore season, he was a solid starter for the Irish this year. Bass is a big at 6-foot-6, 250-pounds but he has solid body control. His slider is his best pitch as it grades out as average to above-average. His low-90s fastball plays well because he can locate it to both sides of the plate, and he reached as high as 95 while pitching in relief in the Cape Cod League last summer. Bass was a solid performer this spring, striking out 80 batters and walking 37 in 84.1 innings. He has some deception to his delivery and could be a power reliever if he moves back to the bullpen in pro ball.
