Cloney began his college career at Long Beach State, but missed his freshman season due to an elbow injury. He transferred to JC of the Canyons (Calif.) and pitched two seasons before moving on to Arizona. He helped the Wildcats reach the College World Series finals in 2016, and took over as their ace this spring. Cloney doesn't overpower hitters, instead relying more on his pitchability and control to get outs. His fastball sits in the mid 80s, reaching 89 mph on occasion. He mixes in a slider mostly against lefthanded hitters and a changeup against righthanders.
