In the year of the two-way talent, Braley was a second-team All-American for his consistent performance as Southern Mississippi won Conference USA and hosted a regional. He hit 18 homers, played third base and ranked second in the country with 66 walks, but he was expected to be drafted more as a pitcher, where his stocky 5-foot-11, 240-pound body may make him durable. He went 7-2, 3.40, showing feel for pitch and toughness that opposing CUSA coaches respected. He challenged hitters with a low-90s fastball that reached 95, and he varied the velocity and shape of his breaking balls, throwing both a curve and a slider for strikes. Braley doesn''t do it pretty but he does it and often is described as a ballplayer.
