Drafted in the 12th round (359th overall) by the Los Angeles Angels in 2014.
View Draft Report
Ruxer was a consideration for the top six rounds before having Tommy John surgery less than two weeks before the draft, clouding his status. A Freshman All-American as a starter in 2012, he moved to the bullpen last year with a 4.9 per nine walk rate and 8.2 per nine strikeout rate. He put it all together this year with a 1.9 walk rate and 8.1 strikeout rate as a strike-throwing starter with a three-pitch mix. He has an 88-92 mph fastball that touches 94 with downhill plane and sink from a high three-quarters arm slot. His best offspeed pitch is an average changeup. His breaking ball is below-average but flashes better. Solidly built at 6-foot-3, 194 pounds, Ruxer has a chance to remain in the rotation but likely projects as a reliever unless his breaking ball improves.
