Sneed's older brother Zeb preceded him to pro ball as the Royals' 11th-round pick in 2011. Cy got a bit more exposure out of an Idaho high school, is more physical at 6-foot-4, 205 pounds and has been a durable college starter over three seasons at Dallas Baptist. Scouts and coaches laud his work ethic, competitiveness and consistency. That said, Sneed is fairly vanilla, without a true plus pitch. His fastball will bump 94 mph and generally sits in the 90-92 mph range with average life. He throws a solid changeup and adds a split-finger pitch that can be a strikeout offering. His weakness is a fringe-average, slurvy breaking ball that gets punished when he fails to locate it. Sneed is a smart pitcher who studies and keeps a notebook on opposing hitters, probing for weaknesses to exploit. His professional approach and strong makeup make him a fairly safe fifth- to sixth-round option.
