La O was one of Cuba's most exciting players, though he has an unorthodox skill set that makes him trickier to evaluate. Primarily a third baseman in Cuba, La O was one of the fastest players in the country, a premium athlete with plenty of quick twitch in him, highly unusual for the position. He's a plus defender at third base with quick reactions off the bat, good range to both sides of the ball and he's adept at charging slow rollers. His arm earns plus or better grades, though he throws from an extremely low slot that hampers his accuracy, even when he has time to set his feet. In the second half of the 2014-15 season, La O started to play more second base and even some shortstop, winning the league's gold glove award in the utility player category. Major league teams would almost certainly want him to play up the middle, and he showed he can play second base with good range, quickness and body control, though his inexperience shows on double plays. As a hitter, La O starts his swing with a small toe tap and wraps his bat before unleashing a quick swing geared toward shooting line drives the opposite way. His hand-eye coordination helps him make contact, even on pitches out of the strike zone, but his overaggressive approach needs to become more selective. The ball jumps off his bat with good exit speed, but his swing rarely has any loft, so he might never crack double-digit home runs unless he changes his approach. Though he's exempt from the international bonus pools, La O would likely need time in the upper minors before he's ready for the majors.
