The Mets signed both Germen (age 20) and Jeurys Familia (17) as passed-over players out of the Dominican Republic in 2007, and they eventually got both to the big leagues. Germen moved to the bullpen in 2013 at Triple-A Las Vegas and made his big league debut in mid-July. He brandishes two plus pitches and great control, giving him a strong relief profile. His low-80s changeup, the best in the system, dives and evades bats as it nears the plate. Batters try to make early-count contact so they don't have to contend with the double-plus pitch. In a relief role, Germen sits comfortably at 93-94 mph with tailing, two-seam life. He was uncharacteristically wild in the big leagues until September, when he brandished a 13/3 SO/BB ratio in 10 appearances. Germen could pitch middle relief in the big leagues, and he could be ready to do so in 2014.
