Hofacket (pronounced HOE-facket) is a 6-foot-1, 195-pound junior who had a strong season for Division II Cal Baptist, ranking 13th in D-II with 98 strikeouts in 103 innings. He hit 94 mph in a fall scrimmage against UC Riverside to get on the radar, then maintained 90-95 mph velocity for most of the season. His best secondary pitch is a firm, low-80s changeup with splitter movement. He also has a loopy curve he locates fairly well and a hard, cutter-type slider in the mid-80s.

A starter in college at Division II California Baptist, Hofacket converted to the bullpen after the Angels took him in the 10th round in 2015 and turned out to be one of the organization's more pleasant surprises from that draft. Hofacket owns a decent four-pitch mix but is better suited to a relief role because of his delivery and arm action, coming across his body with a three-quarters delivery that provides some deception. He has a good feel for his pitches, with the fastball and slider both being potential plus offerings, and he attacks hitters with a max-effort but simple delivery. Hofacket commands his 92-96 mph four-seamer with tailing life and gets sharp late spin on the 84-88 mph slider. He has good feel for both breaking balls and a changeup. Overall he averaged 9.9 strikeouts-per-nine innings for the season, splitting time between low Class A Burlington and high Class A Inland Empire. After getting in a few more games in the Arizona Fall League, Hofacket should be ready to jump to Double-A to start 2017 with an outside shot to join the Angels bullpen during the year. -
Hofacket started for three seasons at California Baptist before the Angels picked him in 2015 in the 10th round and signed him for $100,000. He moved to the bullpen for his pro debut with Rookie-level Orem, posting a 3.77 ERA with eight saves and an impressive 23-3 K-BB rate. Hofacket combines arm strength with a good feel for pitching. He takes a four-pitch mix to the mound, but issues with his delivery and arm action relegate him to a bullpen role. His fastball comes in at 91-94 mph with more tail than sink, with his best secondary pitch being an above-average slider that he throws 83-84 mph with tilt. Hofacket comes across his body with his three-quarters delivery that provides some deception. He's an effective strike-thrower who pitches to contact and keeps the ball on the ground. With a four-pitch mix and experience as a starter, Hofacket profiles as a long reliever capable of going multiple innings per outing. He'll head to low Class A Burlington in 2016 and could move quickly through the organization.
