Drafted in the 4th round (135th overall) by the Los Angeles Angels in 2015 (signed for $320,000).
View Draft Report
Sanger has led Florida Atlantic in hitting in all three of his years at the school and this spring was named Conference USA Player of the Year after leading the league in batting average (.377) and on-base percentage (.494). Sanger has a unique setup at the plate, but he's a patient, disciplined hitter and has shown that he has a good feel for the barrel. Defensively, Sanger is a bit of a tweener, lacking the power to profile in a corner and the speed for center field. But if he keeps hitting, he'll find a home in the outfield as a professional.

Sanger was Florida Atlantic's leading hitter in all three seasons as an Owl, also topping Conference USA hitters in his junior year with a .377 average. He went from the Owls of Florida Atlantic to the Owlz of Orem, joining the Angels' Rookie-level affiliate for his pro debut. Sanger was Orem's most improved player through the course of the year and helped it earn a postseason berth. He improved his first-half .633 OPS with a 1.045 total in the latter half. He's a gap-to-gap hitter and the ball jumps off his bat. He flashes plus raw power that hasn't translated to much in-game pop. He uses a lot of upper body in his swing, so improvement can be expected when he better incorporates his lower half. A patient hitter, Sanger drew 45 walks in 270 plate appearances. He also got better defensively as the season progressed. His average speed limits him to a corner position, but an above-average to plus arm indicates he'll be able to stay in right field. Profling best as a second-division regular in the big leagues, Sanger will join other Orem teammates from the Angels' college-heavy 2015 draft in heading to low Class A Burlington, though his bat may be advanced enough for a high Class A jump.
