The burly Tucson-area righthander has been on the scouting radar since his sophomore year at Sahuarita High, including an appearance in last year's Under Armour All-American game, but scouts don't feel his stuff has progressed this spring. He's got a large frame that doesn't offer any projection. Santa Cruz has a power arm and relies primarily on a fastball that sits 92-93 mph with run and sink, but he continues to struggle with his secondary pitches as a stiff arm action prevents him from getting through on the breaking ball. He'll have to improve his secondary offerings to profile as a starting pitcher. Santa Cruz is committed to Arizona.
