Westbrook is a distant cousin of former NFL running back Brian Westbrook, and scouts love his makeup, leadership and drive. He has a tightly wound, musuclar build at 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds and shows a fast, compact righthanded swing. He has a good feel for hitting and will drive the ball into the gaps, with enough bat speed to hit 10 home runs a season. Defensively, he shows solid actions and has above-average arm strength, but will need to lower his arm slot to get more carry on his throws. While he's a shortstop now, most scouts say he'll wind up at second base. Scouts are also split on whether it's worth signing Westbrook away from college. As one of the top students in his class, he is considered a tough sign from Pepperdine.

Westbrook continues to defy critics who ding him for being too small, too slow and too limited defensively to project as more than an up-and-down guy. But the 2013 fifth-round pick uses his grinder mentality to overachieve. Westbrook takes an aggressive swing for his 5-foot-9 size but makes pretty good contact, striking out 13 percent of time time at Visalia. He catches up to good fastballs and projects to be an average hitter. Defensively, Westbrook has remained at second base throughout his pro career. He may see some offseason work at third base and in the outfield, and he even caught a few bullpen sessions during instructional league. He's an average defender with good instincts at second base, and is an average runner on the basepaths. Westbrook will be just 20 in 2016 but could receive a shot at Double-A Mobile. -
A product of Basha High in Chandler, Ariz., Westbrook stuck close to home when he began his pro career in the Rookie-level Arizona League after signing for $450,000 as a Diamondbacks fifth-round pick. He's a gamer and coach's favorite who loves to play and improve. The prep shortstop didn't have the arm strength to stay at the position in pro ball, but he handled the move to second base, where he could be an average defender if he improves his arm strength, footwork and hands. Westbrook swings the bat well with a compact, righthanded swing, good bat speed and power for his size. One observer compared him with Dan Uggla for his squat body type and pop in his bat. Westbrook's average speed plays up on the bases because of his aggressive nature and the way he studies pitcher tendencies. He'll get another year in short-season ball in 2014, possibly at short-season Hillsboro.
