Field is a winner. After playing on four state championship teams with Bishop Gorman High in Las Vegas, he was a key contributor to Arizona's College World Seres champions in 2012. He has batted .343/.432/.520 as a three-year starter for the Wildcats, but his performance outweighs his tools. He has a good feel for hitting and a short righthanded swing but is smaller than his listed 5-foot-10, 195-pound build and offers little power. He plays outfield now, but will have to move back to the position he played in high school--second base--as a professional. He is a below-average runner with a below-average arm. With his performance track record and excellent makeup, Field could grind his way to the big leagues, but it would likely be as a bench player.

An accomplished amateur who won four state championships at Bishop Gorman High in Las Vegas, Field helped guide Arizona to College World Series title in 2012, the year he was the Pacific-12 Conference batting champion. Far from the toolsiest player in the game, Field does most things well while exhibiting a blue-collar approach and tireless work ethic. He has an excellent feel for hitting with his short stroke, and he generates fringy power. A true hustle player, he has below-average speed but shows excellent instincts in the field and on the basepaths. Field saw most of his activity in center field at low Class A Bowling Green and high Class A Charlotte in 2014 but scouts have projected a move to second base for the past two years due to his below-average arm. The Rays like versatile players and believe Field could fit the super-utility mold. Field could move up to Double-A Montgomery early in the 2015 campaign.
