BA Grade/Risk: 40/High
Track Record: Originally signed by the Braves out of Colombia back in 2016, Zuniga signed with the Dodgers as a minor league free agent and spent the last four seasons in their system, including the last two at Double-A Tulsa. The Cardinals signed him as a minor league free agent after the 2022 season and immediately added him to their 40-man roster.
Scouting Report: A true power reliever, Zuniga stands an imposing 6-foot-5, 230 pounds and mixes a trio of pitches with well above-average velocity. His fastball sits 97-98 mph and touches 102 mph at its peak with heavy armside run. He pairs his heater with a tight, plus slider in the mid-80s with two-plane movement that is his go-to swing and miss pitch. Zuniga's changeup is his third offering but is still a part of his arsenal, sitting 89-91 mph with heavy tumble and fade. Like many hard-throwing relievers, Zuniga has plenty of stuff but is hindered by below-avergage control.
The Future: A pure power reliever with elite velocity and a prime bat-missing secondary in his slider, Zuniga should see time in the Cardinals bullpen in 2023.
Scouting Grades: Fastball: 60. Slider: 60. Changeup 55. Control: 40.
