A 16th-round pick in 2012 from Pasadena (Texas) Memorial High, Eaves was ready to head to Texas Christian before the Angels signed him for an over-slot $100,000 bonus. The second baseman put himself on the prospect radar in 2014 at low Class A Burlington when he made the Midwest League all-star team. Eaves is an instinctual player who plays with lots of energy. He needs to learn to pace himself to handle the grind of a full season, for he started strongly in 2014 only to tire down the stretch. Eaves has a line-drive, pull approach that results in more doubles than home runs. His instincts on the bases and slightly above-average speed allowed him to steal 25 bases, but he also was caught 10 times. Eaves needs to decide which kind of hitter he wants to be in order to cut down on strikeouts (24 percent). Despite his 30 errors in 2014, Eaves' double-play pivot is at least average, and he's got the potential to be a better defender. The Angels are optimistic about Eaves as he advances to high Class A Inland Empire in 2015.
