On pure tools, Kotsay, doesn't grade out as a first-round pick. He's short on power, speed and arm strength. But he has grown on scouts because he approaches the game with the zest and intensity of Pete Rose. Kotsay runs the bases intelligently to compensate for a lack of speed and gets to balls quickly to offset an average arm. He's not a pure power hitter but projects as a .300 hitter with gap power. He'll be one of the first 10 players selected.
