Castano attacks hitters with an 88-92 mph fastball, cutter, curveball approach. Unfortunately for him, his junior year didn't match the highs of his sophomore season.

TRACK RECORD: The Cardinals drafted Castano in the 19th round in 2016 and signed him for $130,000. They traded him to the Marlins in the deal for Marcell Ozuna. While many thought of Castano as a throw-in player in the trade, he became one of the surprises of the 2020 season. He made his major league debut in August and made six starts and one relief appearance, finishing with a 3.03 ERA in 29.2 innings.
SCOUTING REPORT: Castano will never light up the radar gun with his fastball, but he attacks the zone and throws all four of his pitches with good movement and average to above-average control. His fastball is fringe-average, sitting 89-90 mph and touching 93 mph. Castano mixes in a changeup, cutter and a slider, the latter of which has above-average potential. Castano is hardly dominating on the mound, but he knows how to set hitters up and stays out of the middle of the plate.
THE FUTURE: As a lefthander with at least average control, Castano could earn a sustained role either as a low-leverage reliever or fill-in starter in the coming years.
