Drafted in the 23rd round (705th overall) by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2016.

Brown is an excellent athlete who took two years off from baseball at Western Carolina to play on the school's football team as a wide receiver, running back and quarterback. That speaks well of his athleticism, but it also leads to a quandry for scouts. If Brown was an 18-year-old high school kid, he'd be very intriguing as a center fielder with plus-plus speed and projection. Unfortunately, he's a 23-year-old college senior which means his rawness on the baseball diamond is harder to account for. The 6-foot, 185-pounder does know how to slap the ball, and his speed could make him a useful senior sign. He ranked eighth in the country with 34 stolen bases, helping Western Carolina win the Southern Conference tournament and earn a regional berth.
