Draft Prospects
As a teammate of top second-base prospect Forrest Wall, Jones has been seen frequently this spring. Jones has an attractive profile as a switch-hitting backstop and offers two coveted tools for catchers: arm strength and power. He has at least average power potential from both sides of the plate, mostly to his pull side, and flashes bat speed with a line-drive path through the zone. The 6-foot, 190-pounder has strength through his wrists but does have some swing and miss concerns. He has a solid-average arm but will need to work on his throwing accuracy. His hands and receiving will also need development. Jones is a well below-average runner. Although his father played baseball at Central Florida, Jones is committed to Miami. Some teams value him in the top 10 rounds if they think he is signable in that range.
