View Draft Report
Last year Zinn turned down the Cubs as a 28th-round pick to head to Mississippi State, but he never actually played a game at Mississippi State as he transferred to Itawamba (Miss.) JC after the fall semester of his freshman year. Zinn had a solid junior college debut as he hit .411/.464/.457 but he impresses the most in the field. The 5-foot-10, 170-pounder is a premium athlete with a loose, live body. He was an excellent high school point guard. That athleticism is apparent at shortstop as he has the prototypica actions with first-step quickness, quick hands and the ability to make throws from a variety of arm angles. His arm earns 55 grades with a quick release. Like many young shortstops he's inconsistent right now--he posted an .899 fielding percentage this season. Zinn's hit tool is a bigger question as he's an aggressive hitter with significant swing-and-miss potential for a likely bottom-of-the-order hitter. There's a little bit of wiry strength that could provide doubles and 5-8 home run potential but he's likely to hit .240-.250 at best.
