View Draft Report
Scouts saw Santana often this spring when they went to see his teammate Mark Vientos. Santana isn't as prominent as Vientos as far as this year's draft goes, but he has intriguing projection. Santana has a fast arm; he saw his velocity spike in the fall when he bumped 95 mph at the WWBA Championships. In the spring, his fastball worked mostly at 89-91 and touched 92. He has a projectable body with a thin build. Santana has thrown both a slider and a curveball, but he used the curveball more often this spring. While he can locate the pitch for strikes in the zone, it has loose rotation and long break, and will have to tighten to develop into an average pitch at the pro level. He has a long arm action, but is well balanced over the rubber and shows present control. Santana is committed to Florida International, where he could add strength and become a better draft prospect down the line.
