Drafted in the 9th round (270th overall) by the Atlanta Braves in 2015 (signed for $200,000).
View Draft Report
Lewis began his college career at Chipola (Fla.) JC and was named Panhandle Conference Pitcher of the Year last spring after posting a 2.98 ERA and striking out 95 batters in 81 2/3 innings. He was drafted by the Rockies in the 40th round, but didn't sign and moved on to Florida. He's been exclusively a reliever for the Gators, beginning the season as their closer before transitioning into more of a bullpen ace capable of pitching multiple innings. Lewis throws from a nearly sidearm slot and attacks hitters with a fastball-slider combination. He gets good run and sink on his low-90s fastball and pairs it with a slider that grades out at least as average. Lewis' arm slot and size (he's listed at 6-foot, 170 pounds) mean he'll stay in the bullpen as a professional. But he throws strikes and has proven he's capable of getting both lefties and righties out, even without more than a fringy changeup.

After battling tendinitis last year, Lewis has emerged as one of the better starting pitchers in the junior college ranks this season. He dropped his arm and throws from a true sidearm slot that produces plus fastball life and sink that will get groundballs at the next level. At his best, he worked at 91-93 mph, touching 94. But he mostly sat 88-91, touching 93. His move to the bullpen and remaining projection in his lean, wiry and projectable 6-foot-1, 160-pound build should allow his velocity to play toward the higher end of that range. Lewis has a slider that is at least average, and he also shows a fringe-average changeup. His control is ahead of his command, but scouts like how he throws strikes. He walked 2.4 per nine against 10.6 strikeouts per nine this season. The 20-year-old is committed to Florida.
