Drafted in the 3rd round (88th overall) by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2017 (signed for $575,000).

Busby's father Wayne was drafted in 1988 in the 19th round, but Dylan should go out much higher in 2017. A three-year starter in the infield, Busby has flipped between third and first base for the Seminoles and has the power to profile for either spot. He has an athletic 6-foot-3, 190-pound frame and runs well enough to fit into an outfield corner, and he has at least average arm strength that could play in right field or at third. Busby's calling card is his plus raw power, which played with wood last summer in the Cape Cod League (.567 slugging, 4 HR in 90 at-bats). Busby's swing can get long and he doesn't control the strike zone well, with swing-and-miss being a consistent part of his game. He was slowed at times this spring by a left shoulder injury, but as usual, he found a groove and got hot in the second half--he raised his batting average nearly 50 points in the final two months of the season. A big finish could push him back into the first five rounds.

Busby has been a headlining player for one of the better programs in the country at Sarasota High. He shows passion for the game, a hard-nosed mentality, instincts and the athleticism to play all over the diamond. The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder has a lithe and athletic build with wiry strength. He has added 10 pounds in the last year and offers room to get much stronger. Currently a shortstop, Busby has athletic actions and an average arm, with the chance to play the position at the next level, although some expect him to move to third base. He logged time on the showcase circuit at nearly every defensive position except catcher and first base. He is an above-average runner in the 60 as a long strider, but his speed doesn't play out of the box because of his swing. He's a switch-hitter who mostly hits righthanded in games but has shown flashes from the left side. He has a quick, line-drive swing as a contact-oriented hitter and puts together good at-bats. His body and swing path likely portend below-average power, mostly to the gaps. The Central Florida commit has drawn some interest in the top 10 rounds from teams that value his athleticism, while others would like to see him get stronger in college.
