A 25th-round pick out of high school, Byrd has bounced between center field and shortstop at Rice, but it's tough to project him staying in the dirt as a pro due to his hard hands that help explain his 17 errors this season. He has an above-average arm and above-average speed that plays well in center. But Byrd's speed doesn't really play on the basepaths and he doesn't make enough contact. An extremely disappointing junior season (.242/.317/.335) adds to the questions about his bat.
