Drafted in the 16th round (504th overall) by the Washington Nationals in 2012.
View Draft Report
A transfer from College of Charleston, Pena has committed to go back to the Cougars as a junior if he doesn't sign in the draft. The 6-foot-3, 201-pounder touched 94 mph and can sit in the 90-92 range. His curveball and changeup have their moments. His command is below-average and just throwing strikes can be a challenge, but he was around the plate enough to compile a 2.72 ERA with 68 strikeouts in 76 innings.

Track Record: The Nationals signed Pena in the 16th round of the 2012 draft out of Palm Beach (Fla.) JC, where he showed a fastball that touched 94 mph and fringy secondary offerings. Since then, Pena's path has been a long one, as the 6-foot-4, 210-pound righthander spent six seasons in the low minors battling various injury issues.
Scouting Report: In his seventh season with the organization, Pena rewarded the Nationals' patience with something of a breakout campaign during his age 26 season, reaching Double-A for the first time and posting a 3.27 ERA over two leagues and 52.1 innings, with the best strikeout rate of his career. Pena throws a fastball that's regularly in the mid-90s and has touched 100 mph at times. The pitch has solid life when he keeps it down in the zone, but can flatten out at times when he leaves it up. He also has a power slider that ranges from a fringe-average to above-average offering depending on the day.
The Future: Pena seems to be figuring himself out at a late age, but there's still work to be done, as he became susceptible to the long ball in Double-A.
