Drafted in the 9th round (280th overall) by the Detroit Tigers in 2014 (signed for $143,000).
View Draft Report
After two years of inconsistent performance between the bullpen and rotation, Laxer found a home in the bullpen. His stuff plays better in short stints, sitting 91-93 mph, touching 94 in some outings and 93-95, touching 96 at his best. He has a quick arm and the ball jumps out of his hand. His fastball doesn't have much lateral wiggle but he does get downhill plane from a high three-quarters arm slot. His breaking ball can flash at least average, though his high-effort delivery makes it inconsistent. He doesn't offer a third pitch. While Laxer has thrown strikes this season, his control is way ahead of his command, which will need to improve significantly in pro ball. He has a max-effort delivery that propels him toward first base after release. He has a strong, physical build at 6-foot-2, 210 pounds.
