Draft Prospects
Moniot was drafted in the 34th round by the Giants out of high school and started 53 games at shortstop for Oregon as a freshman but hit .168 and transferred. The switch-hitting Moniot added strength to his 6-foot, 190-pound frame and tore up the California junior college circuit, hitting .353 with seven homers, 34 RBIs, 17 stolen bases and a 1.131 OPS to earn co-conference player of the year honors and lead Orange Coast through a deep playoff run. Moniot hits better from the left side than the right with a smooth swing and near-average power, but is a capable hitter from either batter's box. Scouts still question his feel to hit against better pitching but acknowledge he is trending in the right direction. Moniot is a shortstop now but projects to second base, where he is average with a fringe-average arm. He is a fringe-average runner but makes up for it with instincts and feel for the game. Moniot is committed to Arizona.
