In a down year for Clemson, Crownover was a bright spot for the Tigers. After two successful years as a starter, Crownover took another step forward in 2015, and developed into a legitimate college ace. Last year, the Giants took a shot at Crownover as a draft-eligible sophomore, but he chose to return to Clemson, where he posted an ERA under two and made himself a Golden Spikes candidate. The southpaw has isn't intimidating when he walks off the bus, standing at 5-foot-11 and 205 pounds, but he has exceptional command of his upper 80s fastball. In short bursts he can touch 91, though he has never shown the ability to sit there. Crownover has excellent feel for his changeup which projects as an average pitch, and he throws a get-me-over curveball in the mid-70s. Crownover is somewhat similar to another South Carolina college legend--former Gamecocks ace Michael Roth, who made it to the majors with the Angels.
