Drafted in the 12th round (359th overall) by the New York Mets in 2015 (signed for $100,000).
View Draft Report
A 40th-round pick of the Astros out of high school, Shaw has shown a plus fastball in the past when working out of Dallas Baptist's bullpen, so evaluators were excited to see Shaw move the rotation full-time this year. The big (6-foot-5, 242 pound) righthander has been more solid than spectacular as a junior. His fastball has generally sat 88-92 mph this season bumping to 93-94 early in games, although he's touched 96-97 at his best. Neither his breaking ball nor changeup project as more than fringe-average offerings. Shaw has some stiffness to his delivery, but a team picking him can send him out as a starter with the knowledge that he can also slide into a power reliever role.
