Track Record: Teodo is a strong-armed righthander who signed for a five-figure bonus and spent his first pro season as a reliever in the Arizona Complex League. He moved into a starter’s role in 2022, and has been part of the rotation at both Class A levels over the past two seasons. Teodo missed time in 2023 with a forearm injury, then made up the innings with a dominant stint in the Arizona Fall League.

Scouting Report: The story of Teodo’s season can be told in two parts. In the beginning, his four-seam fastball played way down from its upper-90s velocity and was ineffective at missing bats. Once Teodo switched to a two-seamer, his season swung. Teodo made the switch on July 16, and from that point on he struck out 57 and walked just 18 over the season’s final 37.2 innings. He was even more overpowering in the AFL, where he allowed three hits and struck out 18 hitters over 11 frames. Teodo backs the fastball with a nasty curveball in the mid 80s whose break and velocity makes it appear like a slider. The pitch’s shape is inconsistent, and the Rangers have worked with him to improve in that area. When he threw the four-seamer, he would often alter his tempo in an effort to coax the ball into the strike zone. By changing to the two-seamer, Teodo could aim down the middle and allow the combination of movement and velocity to bedevil hitters. He is not likely to have better than below-average control and command.

The Future: Teodo might get a few more cracks at starting, but he’s a near-certain reliever. If it all clicks, he could be a force at the back of the bullpen.

Teodo was an off-the-radar prospect who didn't even have a trainer and was identified at a tryout camp the year before he signed. The whippy-armed former position player spent his first pro season in the Arizona Complex League before moving to Low-A, where his 115 strikeouts led the team and placed seventh in the Carolina League.

Scouting Report: Teodo works with a three-pitch mix led by a mighty four-seam fastball that averaged 96 mph and touched 101. He shows much better command of the pitch, especially up in the zone, when he doesn't try to throw it as hard as he can. Teodo's slider is a sharp-snapper as well. The breaking ball averages around 85 mph and touched 94. He has a below-average changeup that could get better with further repetitions and was thrown just 5% of the time. There's no question that Teodo has an impact arm. Now, the Rangers will have to figure out where it plays. His wiry body and spindly lower half might push him toward the pen, but Teodo stayed at Texas' minor league complex over the winter in an effort to add mass and turn himself into a potential starter who could air it out for five innings.

The Future: Teodo will head to High-A Hickory in 2023 and will work to sharpen his command and build enough stamina to remain a starter.

Midseason Update: Teodo has some of the most electric stuff in the system, including an upper-90s fastball, a nasty slider and a changeup that shows flashes of being a plus pitch. He&#39s worked in a piggyback role and has been tremendous as a starter but erratic as a reliever. In his eight starts, Teodo has 43 strikeouts and 12 walks in 33 innings. In four relief apperances, he&#39s whiffed 10 and walked 11 in 10.1 innings. The stuff is undeniable. If he can throw strikes more consistently and make more progress with his changeup, Teodo could raise his prospect stock significantly.
