McNair’s Magee (Miss.) High almost pulled off quite the two-fer. The school won its first-ever state football title during the fall, and then many of the same players led Magee to the state championship series in baseball, where the school had to settle for a second-place finish. A South Alabama signee, McNair is a plus runner with quick-twitch actions that play both as a hitter and in the field. The switch-hitter showed surprising pop as a senior, hitting 11 home runs to go with his .527 average and 25 steals in 28 attempts. He actually had more home runs than strikeouts (10), and he posted a .641 on-base percentage. He projects to be an average hitter with gap power. Defensively, he’s shown improved arm strength as a senior and was also one of the team’s best pitchers. With a now above-average arm, he has a chance to stay at shortstop in pro ball as he also has excellent first-step quickness. McNair is also an excellent student. He was student body president and valedictorian of his class.

Midseason Update: Drafted in the 11th round in 2021, McNair signed for a well-above slot bonus of $347,500. The Mississippi high school product saw limited action after signing, so 2022 is really his first real experience as a pro. Returning to rookie ball this year, McNair stands out for his outstanding makeup and physicality.""
