Elko was a three-year captain for Mississippi and in 2022 led the Rebels to the national championship. He is perhaps the most prolific player in program history and he in 2022 set the program’s single-season record with 24 home runs. His legend in Oxford was cemented in 2021 when he tore his ACL on April 5 and was back in the lineup less than four weeks later, continuing to mash home runs. His power and makeup are his carrying tools and while he was a third baseman and outfielder early in his career, he’s now likely limited to first base.

After a strong showing on the summer showcase circuit, Elko looked like he had a chance to fit into the rare group of highly drafted righthanded-hitting high school first basemen. He stung line drives in batting practice, flashed above-average raw power and performed well against quality pitching at the East Coast Pro Showcase. He struggled to get to his power for most of the spring, though he did heat up at the end. Elko is likely to honor his commitment to Mississippi, where he could prove himself offensively in the Southeastern conference.
