Albright transferred from the Midwest to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. for his senior season, joining players like outfielder James Wood and lefthander Drew Gray as high-profile transfers to the Florida powerhouse. At his best, Albright dominates opposing hitters with his fastball from the left side, though there are many pitchers in the class who throw harder than the 93-94 mph he frequently tops out at. Scouts frequently call Albright’s heater an “invisiball” and he routinely racks up whiff after whiff with the pitch, even against some of the better hitters in the class. The pure spin rates aren’t outrageous (1900-2200 rpm), but something about Albright’s fastball routinely sneaks over the bats of hitters. Albright also throws a curveball and a changeup, though scouts have described his secondaries as fringe-average pitches. Albright has an extended, one-piece arm action that gets lengthy and inverted in the back, which isn’t always conducive to ripping off hard breaking balls, and he’s been slurvy in the mid 70s with decent shape. While Albright has shown fairly advanced command despite that long arm action, there are some scouts who think he’ll need to shorten it up to get to a more consistent curveball—but that change could also impact the life on his fastball. Albright is listed at just 6 feet, 190 pounds, so there’s not a ton of physical projection left and because of that some teams might want to see him perform at Virginia Tech, unless he’s signable on Day Two.

BA Grade: 40/High
Track Record: A Maryland native, Albright transferred to IMG Academy before his senior year of high school. The Angels drafted him in the 12th round and signed him away from a Virginia Tech commitment with a $1,247,500 bonus. After reaching High-A during the 2022 season, Albright returned to Low-A to begin 2023. There, the lefthander found success. He made 14 starts and pitched to a 3.62 ERA with 86 strikeouts to 20 walks over 79.2 innings. Albright was traded to the Rockies alongside Jake Madden for C.J. Cron and Randal Grichuk.
Scouting Report: Albright is an undersized lefthander with a four-pitch mix. He mixes a four-seam fastball, slider, curveball and changeup. His fastball sits between 92-94 mph with above-average ride and heavy bore. Albright’s most-used secondary is a gyro slider at 82-84 mph which is expertly commanded. Albright also mixes in a mid-70s curveball with 1-7 shape and an above-average low-80s changeup with tumble and fade. Albright is a fringe-average strike-thrower.
The Future: Albright projects as a depth starter.
Scouting Grades Fastball: 40 | Curveball: 40 | Slider: 50 | Changeup: 55 | Control: 45 -
Track Record: Albright moved from Maryland to Florida to attend IMG Academy as a senior in 2021. He appeared headed for Virginia Tech after he wasn’t picked during the first two days of the draft, but the Angels took him in the 12th round and bought him out of that commitment with a $1,247,500 signing bonus, the largest ever given to a player taken outside of the first 10 rounds.
Scouting Report: Albright has an advanced feel for and command of his three-pitch mix, which is headlined by a fastball that sits between 90-92 mph and touches 94 mph. He throws a big, sweeping mid-70s breaking ball from a slightly lower arm slot that is more slurve than slider and has and decent feel for a low-80s changeup. His fastball command, namely when to throw the pitch for a strike and when to move it off the plate, was a focus at instructional league. He is only 19 and has plenty of room for physical growth.
The Future: With some added velocity and command of his secondary pitches, Albright could work his way into the back of a big league rotation. He’ll likely see Low-A Inland Empire in 2022.
