School: Alvin (Tex.) HS Commit/Drafted: Texas A&M
Age At Draft: 18.8
Williams is a lean and lanky lefthander who attacks hitters with a quick tempo and impressive feel to pound the zone. Listed at 6-foot-4, 175 pounds, Williams lacks strength currently but has tons of room to add mass in the future and currently sits with a fastball in the 88-92 mph range that has been up to 94. He’s toyed with two breaking ball variants—a slider and a curveball—but both pitches are slow in the mid 70s and lack late biting action and need further separation to project as average or better. His best secondary is an 80-84 mph changeup that has consistent fading action and excellent tumble out of his hand. He generates lots of whiffs with the pitch against righties and spots it down in the zone well enough to use it in same side matchups as well. It might be an above-average pitch. Williams was one of three pitchers to make multiple starts for USA Baseball’ s 18U National team in Taiwan. He’s committed to Texas A&M and has huge upside if he can make strides with his velocity and breaking balls in the next few years.
