Barrett won't go as high as former teammate Austin Cousino, who went to the Mariners as a third-round pick last year, but he, like Cousino, is a center fielder who had an excellent freshman year, endured a sophomore slump and then bounced back as a junior. Barrett retooled his swing twice, once unsuccessfully as a sophomore and once successfully as a junior, as he opened up. He is a solid center fielder defensively and is an above-average runner. Barrett has a slap-hitting approach with well below-average power. But his plate discipline and strike-zone awareness are not what scouts and teams look for in a leadoff hitter. He most likely ends up as a backup outfielder, but his track record of performance in the SEC will help him.
