Voss dabbled as a starter in his first two pro seasons before coming into his own with a move to full-time relief in 2009. He worked his way up to Double-A, where he averaged a strikeout per inning and held opponents to a .200 average. Tall and solidly built, Voss pitches at 89-91 mph and touches 93 with his fastball. He has two different sliders, a sweeping version for lefties and one with splitter action for righties. He still throws his changeup, which is developing. A hard worker with a soft-spoken personality, he went along with mechanical changes suggested by pitching coordinator Wayne Rosenthal early in his career to smooth out his delivery. Voss struggled in August last year after returning home to help his father recover from a fall off a ladder, then turned in a decent showing in the Arizona Fall League. Voss will bid for a lefty-specialist role in Florida's bullpen in spring training, but more likely will head to Triple-A to sharpen his game at the outset of 2010.
