Zach Veen

Veen emerged as a draft prospect this spring by posting a 0.51 ERA with 59 strikeouts and three walks in 49 innings out of the bullpen at Division II Point Loma Nazarene. He's a 6-foot, 180-pound lefthander with a high-spin, 88-92 mph fastball that gets repeated swings and misses in the zone. He generates deception with a crossfire delivery and commands his fastball in the zone to make it a dominant pitch despite its velocity. He is effective against both lefties and righties with his fastball and throws it almost exclusively. He also has a mid-70s slider and mid-70s changeup, but he rarely throws them. Veen is a pure reliever with no history of starting. His ability to to dominate with his fastball from the left side has him in day three draft consideration.
