Ybarra's father Jesse was drafted by the Reds in 1986 in the fifth round, though a shoulder injury curtailed the outfielder's career. Tyler hit 90 mph in high school and pitched in the Area Code Games in 2007, but a bout of wildness dropped his stock in 2008. Committed to Oklahoma, Ybarra instead signed as a 43rd-rounder but didn't debut until 2009. He didn't pitch well as a 19-year-old in the GCL and then spent 2010 on the restricted list while he tended to personal matters. He has pitched better in his return but has yet to pitch a full season, spending two separate stints on the disabled list in 2012. When on the mound, Ybarra has intriguing stuff, starting with a plus fastball that sits 91-95 mph with good life and a slider with tilt that can be above-average at times. His delivery creates a tough angle for lefthanded batters. He is poised to move quickly in a bullpen role and has the ceiling of a set-up man. He should finish the 2013 season in Double-A at least.
