BA Grade: 45/High
Track Record: Ramos signed with the Dodgers for $30,000 out of Panama and looked like a steal early in his career, but his aggressive approach was eventually exploited by higher-level pitching. He went unprotected and unpicked in the 2022 Rule 5 draft and used it as motivation. Ramos hit .313/.353/.500 as Panama’s center fielder in the World Baseball Classic and followed with a solid showing at Double-A Tulsa in 2023. He cut his strikeout rate, improved his walk rate and finished tied for second on the team with 19 home runs.
Scouting Report: Ramos flashes tantalizing tools that can impact a game. He has extraordinary bat speed and annihilates fastballs at any velocity with plus raw power. He regularly crushes balls 400-plus feet and can use the whole field. Ramos has long struggled to recognize or hit breaking pitches, but he is slowly improving. He has a chance to be a well below-average hitter with average power production if he can cut down his chase swings on secondary stuff. Ramos is an average runner who plays above-average defense in center field and plus defense in right. He goes back to the wall and into the gaps with remarkable ease and plays comfortably at both positions. He has plus-plus arm strength and makes jaw-dropping throws.
The Future: Ramos’ power and defense give him a path to playing time in the majors. He’ll see Triple-A in 2024.
