Draft Prospects
Shannon showed flashes as a two-way player on the showcase circuit, flashing raw power in batting practice as a corner outfielder and arm strength up to 95 mph on the mound. But scouts prefer him as a pitcher. He injured his ankle last fall and has not had a great spring, working himself back into shape after the injury layoff. His fastball velocity has been down from last summer, and he has pitched with an average fastball that touches 93 mph. At his best, he produces downhill plane and heavy armside run. His power curveball showed plus potential last summer but has not been as good this spring. He has developed a serviceable changeup. Shannon has also struggled with his control, as his delivery has a pronounced high elbow in the back, which could point him toward the bullpen. The 6-foot-1 Shannon has a large frame and strong, durable build. The team drafting Shannon will do so hoping the power stuff of last summer will return and because he is viewed as signable.
