Draft Prospects
Last year Shilling was a catcher who hopped up on the mound just to see how his arm played. A 90 mph fastball later, he was a pitcher who slides over to first base on days he doesn't pitch. Shilling has touched 95 mph this season. A thick-bodied pitcher with a big trunk and thick legs, Shilling is listed at 6-foot-4, 240 pounds, and will have to stay on top of his conditioning. His command is well below-average and his breaking ball and changeup both need to significantly improve, but he's still making the transition to pitching. Shilling was committed to Cincinnati when he was a catcher. Now that he's pitching, he's going to Illinois if he doesn't go pro.
Scouting Reports
Shilling was one of the more intriguing arms in the White Sox's system this season, boasting a fastball up to 98 mph with a pair of swing-and-miss breaking balls. He tore his ulnar collateral ligament, however, and is out for the season.
